Training, Trifle and The Royal Family; the Story of Second Briefing

So it was only around 36 hours ago that Team Malawi staggered back through their front doors and immediately put everything that may or may not have touched some mildly questionable mattresses into the washing machine! It's crazy to think that 2nd Briefing has already come and gone!

Our latest GOLD adventure saw all 48 participants descend on Bounds Green Scout Camp in the outskirts of London. It was dark it was wet but the noise of the GOLDies' excitement at being back together could be heard from the car park.

It was straight into dinner for Team Malawi who were one of the last to arrive, and we FINALLY got to meet our 6th team member! Exciting times! After dinner came a few rounds of articulate and duvet charades - a GOLD favourite with a new twist; wedding themes in honour of Niiki's engagement and Jade's wedding next weekend! How many brides would be at a guiding camp the weekend before their wedding?! Thats dedication! In case you were wondering, Team Malawi ROCKS at duvet charades...even if Emma and Alannah did get a little bit over excited!

The next morning training started in earnest and we managed to cram a lot of it in! Training and facilitation workshops and country led presentations by the GOLD team where Team Malawi debuted their Crocodile Quiz! If you want to know more, have a look at our Challenge pack for full details! Mostly it's a lot of giggling and running around with a Malawi quiz in between!

The afternoon held more training, this time role specific. Each team member has their own role; Leader, First Aider, Treasurer, Written Documenter, AV Documenter and Resources. I loved the social media training and have been all over Twitter ever since! Follow us @GOLDMalawi2016!

Dinner was a noisy affair with a Prosecco incident that almost took an eye out! That evening's entertainment was a Royal Variety performance and each team was given a decade. We'd got the 40's which was VERY exciting and we donned our best wartime outfits before having a trifle relay which ended in a spectacularly messy way. Other team's efforts included a sketch of the moon landing, a game of human Pacman, a musical rendition of Grease and a yellow brick road obstacle course!

Sunday morning brought more training with Nefeli from WAGGGS coming down to give us an insight into what they do and the resources they offer and a choice of translation, development and retention or peer education training. The translation training was really interesting and made us think about potential issues with translators!

Before we knew it we were back in the hall to round off the weekend with a video of our GOLD journey so far.  Knowing that that was our last time altogether as #GOLDUK2016 was emotional but from here on in it's all about our individual teams. 3rd briefing is going to be at Rhiannon's mum's house and it's going to be lovely spending some more time together as a team.

Good luck to all of this year's GOLD projects, we'll see you on the other side!

Much Love,

Team Malawi.
